RDA Tenth Plenary Report
Integrating ELIXIR Italy into ELIXIR activities
The implementation study project plan of ELIXIR Italy consists of six activities that aim to boost the cooperation with existing ELIXIR activities and are expected to deepen the interaction between ELIXIR-IIB, the Joint Research Unit embodying the Italian Node, and ELIXIR. The partners involved have already established contacts with other ELIXIR Nodes and the relevant ELIXIR Platforms and Services in order to ensure an advantageous outcome for all the involved parties.
Using clouds and VMs for bioinformatics training
Bioinformatics analysis typically involves a large number of software and reference data, making the installation process a time-consuming task. This problem is aggravated in a course setting, where every participant needs to have an identical installation, sufficient hardware to run it, and, ideally, access to an identical set-up after the course.
ELIXIR integration from a user perspective
ELIXIR is about integration of diverse resources including tools, training materials and technical services.
ELIXIR proof of concept study on the availability of big datasets on remote compute infrastructure
Part of the EOSC-Hub project proposal it to establish an ELIXIR Competency Centre (ECC). The EOSC-Hub proposal is currently under review by the EC and a funding decision is expected around late summer 2017 with a tentative project start date of January 2018.
ELIXIR Position paper on FAIR Data Management in the Life Sciences
This document sets out the formal position of ELIXIR Europe on good data management practice in the life sciences and the practical implementation of FAIR Data Management principles by ELIXIR Nodes. It represents the collective recommendation of the 21 ELIXIR Nodes on how to implement FAIR in life sciences.
Post-doctoral position in Bioinformatics and Semantic web technologies
The main mission of the CALIPHO group, affiliated to the University of Geneva and to the SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics, is the development of neXtProt, a human protein knowledge resource integrating curated knowledge from multiple sources (UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot, GOA, PeptideAtlas, Human Protein Atlas, ...). In parallel with improving our web platform, we are starting a new challenging phase focused on integrating new types of data like coexpression, phylogeny, etc. to extend our knowledge base and become the one-stop shop for scientists working on human proteins. Our extended knowledge base will be made available via our REST API and searchable via our SPARQL endpoint.
We are looking for a creative, highly motivated and innovative post-doc to join our development team and help design and implement solutions for efficient big data integration of multiple and heterogeneous sources, extend our RDF representation to meet standards and to provide our users with a scalable SPARQL engine. The position is funded for a duration of 1-3 years.
