Story collection shows interoperability successes

A set of seven stories has been created to demonstrate how biodata and software can be made more interoperable. The stories have been produced by ELIXIR’s Interoperability Platform, a pan-European group of experts working to improve interoperability across the life sciences.

The stories describe successful data reuse across the ELIXIR network, exploring how to achieve impact through interoperable data sharing. They feature a variety of scientific and technical areas covered by ELIXIR’s Communities, ranging from plant sciences to rare diseases to metabolomics.

A number of themes emerged from the stories. These included the importance of starting with a well-defined use case and working with an experienced data steward. Building workflows, rather than data silos, was emphasised, along with the need to validate results early and often. The stories also underlined the need to promote newly-built interoperability solutions and to share good practices widely.

The stories were funded through the ELIXIR Scientific Programme 2019-2023 and take the form of a series of presentations.  The authors and topics are below, and the report and slides are available on Zenodo.
