ELIXIR organises its first Train the Trainer workshop

The ELIXIR Training Platform organised its first Train the Trainer (TtT) at the University of Cambridge, UK, on 10-11 May.

The goal of the TtT workshops is to establish and develop an pool of ELIXIR trainers to run effective training courses in bioinformatics and related fields.

The workshop - organised by ELIXIR UK and EMBL-EBI - attracted twelve trainers. On day 1, trainers had a chance to reflect on what makes good and bad training, what skills are needed to be a good trainer, different learning styles and learning methods, how to design a training session, how to write learning objectives, and how to develop training materials and collect feedback. On day 2, they had the chance to practice some of the principles learned on the previous day, deliver a short presentation and receive feedback on it as well as consider the practical aspects of running a training session and design a trainer checklist.
