ELIXIR-EXCELERATE, GOBLET and the Galaxy Training Network, organised a joint hackathon on Galaxy training material re-use in Cambridge, UK, on 22-24 May. Galaxy is a well-established web platform for data analysis in bioinformatics; the three-day event brought together people actively involved in Galaxy training from across the world - Belgium, Germany, France, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, United Kingdom, Australia and United States.
The main objective was to extend the existing collection of Galaxy training materials, which was initiated at the 2016 Galaxy Community Conference. The range of topics covered Genome annotation, RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, Exome-sequencing, MethylC-seq and Galaxy Tool Development. The attendees worked on existing materials (improving and adding slides, datasets, tools, workflows, metadata, Docker containers and interactive tours), as well as creating new training topics.
Galaxy Community Conference
The work will continue at the 2017 Galaxy Community Conference in Montpellier, France, on 26-30 June, which will also include three days of pre-conference activities with hackathons and five Galaxy training tracks. ELIXIR is sponsoring the conference as a Gold sponsor and will present its activities in a booth and in presentation.
