As national ELIXIR node, ELIXIR Germany includes 23 contractual partners from German universities and research institutions as well as the associated EMBL Heidelberg. Since Germany became a member of ELIXIR in August 2016, the contracting parties have set up the German ELIXIR node on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) with the aim of providing bioinformatics services, training and cloud computing for research in the life sciences and coordinating further scientifical developments of the German node closely connected with ELIXIR Europe.
ELIXIR Germany bundles expertise and national resources in the form of eight thematically different service units: human bioinformatics, plant bioinformatics, microbial bioinformatics, RNA bioinformatics, bioinformatics for proteomics, integrative bioinformatics, bioinformatics for systems biology and bio databases. The latter service unit also operates the three German ELIXIR Core Data Resources BRENDA, SILVA and BacDive. Additionally, the node houses Galaxy, an ELIXIR Recommended Interoperability Resource. The service offering of the German ELIXIR node is listed at the bottom of this website with the relevant links. In addition, the German ELIXIR node has established an extensive and diverse training program for the services offered over the past few years, as well as a large cloud system to support its services and its users with the needed hardware resources.
ELIXIR Germany is coordinated by Forschungszentrum Jülich as the representing entity.
