A BioHackathon Europe output paper
Data Management Plans are now considered a key element of Open Science. They describe the data management life cycle for the data to be collected, processed and/or generated within the lifetime of a particular project or activity. A Software Manag ement Plan (SMP) plays the same role but for software. Although there are a few SMPs already available, most of them require significant technical knowledge to be effectively used. ELIXIR has developed a low-barrier SMP, specifically tailored for life science researchers, aligned to the FAIR Research Software principles.

Recommendations for the FAIRification of genomic track metadata

An ELIXIR Implementation study, with funding from ELIXIR-NO, ELIXIR-ES and EMBL-EBI

Many types of data from genomic analyses can be represented as genomic tracks, i.e. features linked to the genomic coordinates of a reference genome. searchers often face difficulties in locating, accessing and combining relevant tracks from external sources [...]. We propose to advance the application of FAIR data principles to produce searchable metadata for genomic tracks. We here provide a first iteration of a draft standard for genomic track metadata, as well as the accompanying software ecosystem.

Highlights from the 10th GOBLET Annual General Meeting

Rob Hooft and Celia van Gelder presented a session related to data management and stewardship at the EMBO Practical Course 'Research to service: Planning and running a bioinformatics core facility'

New publication on the EMBL-EBI Complex Portal in collaboration with the Dutch WikiPathways Community

The EMBL-EBI Complex Portal published an update paper in NAR. Members of the Dutch WikiPathways community collaborated with the team to improve the interoperability of complexes in WikiPathways.

A new update for PhylomeDB!

PhylomeDB V5 has been released with a suite of new and exciting features. This public database for complete collections of gene phylogenies (phylomes) is developed and maintained by the Comparative Genomics research group, lead by Toni Gabaldon, which is jointly affiliated to the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) and the IRB Barcelona, and part of INB/ELIXIR-ES. PhylomeDB is part of the INB/ELIXIR-ES service delivery plan.

Applications open for the EJPRD Research Mobility Fellowships

Deadline 28 November 2021

The EJP RD Research Mobility Fellowship aims to support PhD students, postdocs and medical doctors in training to undertake scientific visits fostering specialist research training outside their countries of residence. The fellowships cover stays of 4 weeks to 6 months duration.
