The second Biohackathon Europe was held in Paris, France on the 18 - 22 of November. The event was a great success with over 170 participants working collaboratively on 32 hacking projects related to the life sciences. To find out more check out our news release, and the photos from the event.

The Common Infrastructure for National Cohorts in Europe, Canada, and Africa (CINECA) project are hosting a webinar: H3ABioNet experiences in Data Harmonisation and Standards Development on Thursday 12 December 2019 13:30-14:30 CET. Please register in advance.
Early registration deadline extended to 15 December for the winter school Disorder in Disorders: Pathogenic mechanisms of Intrinsically Disordered Proteins 27-31 January 2020, Brixen, Italy. Experts will provide an overview of Intrinsically Disordered Protein (IDP) biological mechanisms that develop pathogenic phenotypes. The event, organised by ELIXIR Italy in collaboration with MSCA-RISE IDPfun consortium, includes a half-day workshop on ELIXIR Interoperability services and support for the IDP Community.
The Wheat Initiative and ELIXIR are organising a training event on Data management for wheat phenotyping data in Paris, France 12 - 13 February 2020.
Updates from Platforms
You are encouraged to attend the RIR Submission Webinar on 16 December 2019 12:00 - 13:00 GMT if you plan to submit an application to the ELIXIR Recommended Interoperability Resource (RIR) selection. The webinar will walk you through the application process and there will be an opportunity for you to ask questions with regards to the selection criteria and the process. Please register in advance and please contact Sirarat.sarntivijai@elixir-europe.org with any questions.
The SHERPA project is undertaking a DELPHI Study as part of its work in identifying and addressing ethical and human rights issues in smart information systems, the combination of artificial intelligence and big data. If you are an expert in this area and are interested in contributing to this study, please register your interest.
Susanna Sansone presented the terms4FAIRskills initiative at the EOSC Symposium; this initiative includes members of the ELIXIR Training Platform and FAIRsharing. The goal is to build a terminology for the skills necessary to make data FAIR and to keep it FAIR.

The Finnish IT Centre for Science (CSC) have published a new video: 'How do I authorise access to my sensitive data?'. Explaining the process of making your data open, the data access committee and authorisation tool.
A recent article published in Science on how GDPR affects international biomedical research features comments from members of the Spanish National Bioinformatics Institute (INB) including Deputy Head of Node for ELIXIR Spain Salvador Capella.

The European Joint Programme on Rare Diseases (EJP RD) have two pre-announcements on calls opening soon:
- EJP RD Joint Transnational Call (JTC) 2020 fostering development of new therapies for rare diseases, the call will be officially launched on 13 December 2019.
- EJP RD Internal Call for proposals on Clinical Trials Methodology Demonstration Projects. The call will be officially launched on 1 February 2020.
The early bird registration deadline has been extended (to 20 December) for the RE(ACT) Congress and International congress of research on rare and orphan diseases (IRDiRC) Conference. The conference takes place in Berlin, Germany, 11-14 March.
