The Quest for Orthologs orthology benchmark service in 2022

An ELIXIR | EMBL-EBI paper

The Orthology Benchmark Service is the gold standard for orthology inference evaluation, supported and maintained by the Quest for Orthologs consortium. It is an essential resource to compare existing and new methods of orthology inference (the bedrock for many comparative genomics and phylogenetic analysis) over a standard dataset and through common procedures. The Quest for Orthologs Consortium is dedicated to maintaining the resource up to date, through regular updates of the Reference Proteomes and increasingly accessible data through the OpenEBench platform. For this update, we have added a new benchmark based on curated orthology assertion from the Vertebrate Gene Nomenclature Committee, and provided an example meta-analysis of the public predictions present on the platform.

Motor evoked potentials for multiple sclerosis, a multiyear follow-up dataset

An ELIXIR-Belgium paper

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic disease affecting millions of people worldwide. Through the demyelinating and axonal pathology of MS, the signal conduction in the central nervous system is affected. Evoked potential measurements allow clinicians to monitor this process and can be used for decision support. The authors share a dataset that contains motor evoked potential (MEP) measurements, in which the brain is stimulated and the resulting signal is measured in the hands and feet. The dataset contains 5586 visits of 963 patients, performed in day-to-day clinical care over a period of 6 years. This dataset can be used to explore the role of evoked potentials in MS research and patient care. It may also be used as a benchmark for time series analysis and predictive modelling.

Update on usegalaxy.fr

New services are available on usegalaxy.fr:

  • TIaaS: Training Infrastructure as a Service
This service allows trainers to reserve resources for their training and track student progress. This service works with the Galaxy Training Network, so slides, tutorials, workflows and videos are already available.
  • AlphaFold:
Its a program that uses neural networks to predict the tertiary (3D) structure of proteins. AlphaFold accepts an amino acid sequence (in Fasta format), then "folds" this sequence into a 3D model.
