Hub updates

Today we are pleased to launch of the ELIXIR-CONVERGE project. This three year, 5 million project will focus ELIXIR's activities to support the provision of data management across Europe. Please keep your eyes peeled for the news release and announcements on social media that will come later today.

To mark the news of our newest EC grant, we have also taken a look back at ELIXIR-EXCELERATE, the four year 19 million project that helped accelerate the implementation of ELIXIR across Nodes. To summarise the highlights of the ELIXIR-EXCELERATE project we have developed a number of factsheets which you can now find on our publications page, there are more to come this week!

Please have a read of our latest ELIXIR Position Paper on Suitable Business Models for Open Data. This outlines our position on the different business models for access and use of open bioinformatics data as well as depletable resources such as cloud computing.

Updates from Nodes

ECCB: The deadline to submit abstracts for tutorials and workshops/SIGs has been extended to 10 February 2020.

ELIXIR Portgual have released their BioData Report for 2017-2019, outlining their exciting achievements during this time, details on their services and projects, as well as their plans for the future.

Updates from Platforms

The ELIXIR Data Platform are pleased to announce that their paper The ELIXIR Core Data Resources: fundamental infrastructure for the life sciences has now been published in the journal Bioinformatics.

ELIXIR has endorsed the five recommendations for making research software more FAIR and the guidelines presented at fair-software.eu that state that research software should:

be available in the publicly available version-controlled repository, adopt a license, be registered in the relevant registry, contain citation information, and should be developed according to one of the community standards.

A reminder that the application to fund (up to 2000) up to 10 established training events for 2020 is open and will close 17 February, so please submit your application!

MIAPPE has been featured in a new series of guides to Agricultural Ontologies published by the Platform for Big Data in Agriculture, part of CGIAR. The first in the series focuses on MIAPPE guide Agricultural Ontologies in Use: The MIAPPE Standard. The article was published thanks to the contribution from Eliana Papoutsoglou and Hanna wiek-Kupczyska.

Updates from other Research Infrastructures

The European Joint Programme on Rare Diseases (EJPRD) is launching a Rare Disease Networking Support Scheme. Applicants can apply for a budget of a maximum of 30,000 per event to organise a transnational event to share and disseminate knowledge on rare diseases or rare cancers. The call is open on a continuous basis.
