International federation of genomic medicine databases using GA4GH standards

An ELIXIR-LU paper

We promote a shared vision and guide for how and when to federate genomic and health-related data sharing, enabling connections and insights across independent, secure databases. The GA4GH encourages a federated approach wherein data providers have the mandate and resources to share, but where data cannot move for legal or technical reasons. We recommend a federated approach to connect national genomics initiatives into a global network and precision medicine resource.

Detecting SARS-CoV-2 lineages and mutational load in municipal wastewater

An ELIXIR-GR paper

We propose a novel methodology called lineagespot for the monitoring of mutations and the detection of SARS-CoV-2 lineages in wastewater samples using next-generation sequencing. The results show the presence of SARS-CoV-2 variants in wastewater and the evolution and rapid domination of the Alpha variant (B.1.1.7) in the community. There was correlation between variants observed in wastewater and those in patients from the same area and time periods.
