Tomorrow: First All Hands Keynote
Archaic Genomics with Janet Kelso
11 am CET/10 am BST
Janet Kelso is a computational biologist at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology. With Janet, we will adventure further into the world of archaic genomics to unveil the human history of modern and archaic populations.
Please, note that you will have to register to attend this keynote even if you have registered for the AHM.
We have made our AHM keynotes available to everyone and we encourage you to invite any external colleagues
COVID Virtual Bring Your Own Workflow
27 May 2020 | 15 pm CEST
Do you want to join this week's virtual open house?
Anyone who has a COVID-19 related workflow is invited to come along. We will work with you to register your workflow in the Workflow Hub and learn how to make the Hub better.
What is the WorkflowHub?
During the COVID-19 Virtual Biohackathon 2020, the Workflow Hub stood up as a place for registering and sharing COVID-19 workflows. The Workflow Hub has been continuously developed since, under the EOSC-Life sponsorship. From these first steps, it now has 19 workflows from Galaxy, Snakemake, Nextflow and CWL. The workflows themselves can stay in their home repositories and the Hub links to them.

Open-source Software in the Life Sciences
28 May 2020 | 4 pm CET
This week we will have Alex Wade and Carly Strasser (from Chan Zuckerberg Initiative), Eva Martin (ELIXIR Spain) and Jen Harrow (ELIXIR Hub).
We will discover Chan Zuckerberg Initiative's funding Program for Open Source Scientific Software and discuss support beyond funding.

OUR DEDICATED WEBSITE
We have created an ELIXIR COVID-19 webpage to list all ELIXIR services that support researchers working on SARS-CoV-2. The site will be updated periodically to display new resources.
You can track our advance on compiling COVID-19 projects by accessing our shared document that includes all services and initiatives from the Nodes.
This is an internal document. Please, do not share outside ELIXIR.
ELIXIR COVID-19 SLACK WORKSPACE
Please, use this to discuss and exchange ideas on SARS-CoV-2 research initiatives, consider collaboration opportunities across ELIXIR Nodes and share results of your work on COVID-19 with other ELIXIR members.
If you haven't joined the workspace yet, don't forget to connect with us on Slack or email Katharina Lauer to be part of the conversation
SELECTED NATIONAL INITIATIVES
ELIXIR ES | DisGeNET releases version 7.0 including a COVID19 text mining platform
The ELIXIR RIR DisGeNET database integrates information of human gene-disease and variant-disease associations. This comprehensive platform is led by Laura Furlong and based at multiple institutes that are part of ELIXIR Spain.
ELIXIR NO developed a viral portalSARS-CoV-2DB
The SARS-CoV-2DB is a manually curated virus genome database for SARS-CoV-2 research compiled from publicly available resources. The portal also contains links to bioinformatics tools and data resources provided freely by ELIXIR Norway and ELIXIR members.
Tip of the Week
As an ELIXIR member, don' forget you have some perks.
Did you know you can publish free of charge in the ELIXIR F1000 Research Gateway? Read the internal guidelines to learn how it works.
Updates from Nodes
Two new investments approved by the Netherlands Science Foundation
14.5 million investment in a Microbial Biotechnology large-scale Research Infrastructure in the Netherlands, led by Wageningen University.
13.6 million investment in a Biodiversity Research Infrastructure led by Naturalis Biodiversity Centre, Netherlands Infrastructure for Ecosystem and Biodiversity Analysis.
Updates from Platforms
New article in PLoS Computational Biology
Last week, the ELIXIR FAIR training working group published a paper on PLoS Computational Biology 10 Simple Rules for Making training materials FAIR.
We encourage you to navigate through these 10 straightforward rules to make your training materials easier to find, (re)use and adapt, for the benefit of all.
On Monday 11 May, we hosted the Interoperability Platform Virtual Meeting focused on COVID-19. Planned and executed as an Interoperability Virtual Hackathon, the online event garnered an extensive record of success stories:
- Recommended best practices to make COVID-19 resources FAIRer
- Enhanced the discoverability of COVID-19 data with Bioschemas mark-up on Gene/Protein content
- Mapped the existing framework of human data distributed analysis for COVID-19 clinical research to Interoperability resources
- Examined interoperability challenges and opportunities in the #CovidPathways Diseasemaps initiative
- Gave the world-premier of COVIDMine by InterMine
