The PROPHET project paves the way for personalized prevention in the future healthcare
A PROPHET project paper
The advances in omics technology, the reduction of genome sequencing costs, and the integration of digitalization have initiated a revolution in medicine and public health, transforming healthcare delivery towards an increased personalization. These developments arrive at a critical time as European Member States face mounting pressure to provide effective and efficient healthcare from limited budgets, primarily due to the challenges posed by an aging population, the rise in chronic diseases, and the escalating costs of new therapies.

A study of deep active learning methods to reduce labelling efforts in biomedical relation extraction
An ELIXIR-BE paper
Automatic biomedical relation extraction (bioRE) is an essential task in biomedical research in order to generate high-quality labelled data that can be used for the development of innovative predictive methods. However, building fully labelled, high quality bioRE data sets of adequate size for the training of state-of-the-art relation extraction models is hindered by an annotation bottleneck. In this article, the authors showed how Active Learning plays an important role in improving bioRE tasks, effectively overcoming the labelling limits inherent to a data set.
