Proteomics Standards Initiative at Twenty Years: Current Activities and Future Work
An ELIXIR Implementation Study
The Human Proteome Organization (HUPO) Proteomics Standards Initiative (PSI) has been successfully developing guidelines, data formats, and controlled vocabularies (CVs) for the proteomics community and other fields supported by mass spectrometry since its inception 20 years ago. Here, the authors describe the general operation of the PSI, including its leadership, working groups, yearly workshops, and the document process by which proposals are thoroughly and publicly reviewed in order to be ratified as PSI standards.

Systems Biology in ELIXIR: modelling in the spotlight
An ELIXIR white paper
In this white paper, the authors describe the founding of a new ELIXIR Community - the Systems Biology Community - and its proposed future contributions to both ELIXIR and the broader community of systems biologists in Europe and worldwide. A set of objectives for the Community has been identified under four main headline areas: Standardisation and Interoperability, Technology, Capacity Building and Training, and Industrial Embedding. These are grouped into short-term, mid-term and long-term objectives.

Bioinformatics Education Summit

The Bioinformatics Education Summit provides a platform for discussion of advances, guidance and best practices for training and education in bioinformatics as part of a global network.
This years meeting will focus on three main themes:
- Furthering the use and adoption of the ISCB competency framework
- Exploring how to make training and teaching greener
- Developing and sharing best practices for building and supporting communities in training.
The Dutch Research Software Directory
The Dutch Research Software Directory is a registry for research software and is designed to show the impact research software has on research and society. Sets of software are associated with organisations.

[BC]2 Basel Computational Biology Conference, Switzerland's main event in Computational Biology, brings together around 500 participants from pharma/biotech companies and academia. This year, the conference will focus on Big data in biology promises and challenges.

Towards a national curriculum for life science Data Stewards
SIB has joined forces with the University of Lausanne and several Swiss institutions to launch a new project to foster training and a national curriculum for Data Stewards, and is in charge of the life science part.

ELIXIR-GOBLET Train-the-Trainer course is co-organised by ELIXIR Switzerland and ELIXIR Luxembourg. This course will introduce trainers in the life sciences to learning principles, training techniques, lesson, session, course, and material design as well as assessment and feedback.

RItrainPlus is preparing to open applications for its first training programme aimed at managers and operators of Research Infrastructures and Core Facilities. The pilot courses are offered free of charge and mostly as online intensive courses.

Building blocks of Global Research Commons Europe and beyond
