Extending inherited metabolic disorder diagnostics with biomarker interaction visualizations

An EJP RD paper

Inherited Metabolic Disorders are rare diseases where one impaired protein leads to a cascade of changes in the adjacent chemical conversions. IMDs often present with non-specific symptoms, a lack of a clear genotypephenotype correlation, and de novo mutations, complicating diagnosis. Visualization of the connections between metabolic biomarkers and the enzymes involved might aid in the diagnostic process. The goal of this study was to provide a proof-of-concept framework for integrating knowledge of metabolic interactions with real-life patient data before scaling up this approach. The lessons learned from the approach will help to scale up the framework and support the diagnosis of other less-understood IMDs.

Therapeutic Potential of Tumor Metabolic Reprogramming in Triple-Negative Breast Cancer

An ELIXIR-HU supported research

Triple-negative breast cancer is the most aggressive subtype of breast cancer, with clinical features of high metastatic potential, susceptibility to relapse, and poor prognosis. A better understanding of the interaction between the tumor microenvironment and tumor cells, and the underlying molecular mechanisms of cellcell communication signaling, may uncover additional targets for better therapeutic strategies in TNBC treatment. In this review, the authors aim to discuss the mechanisms in tumor metabolic reprogramming, linking these changes to potential targetable molecular mechanisms to generate new, physical science-inspired clinical translational insights for the cure of TNBC.
