Systems Biology in ELIXIR: modelling in the spotlight
An ELIXIR Community White Paper
In this white paper, the authors describe the founding of a new ELIXIR Community - the Systems Biology Community - and its proposed future contributions to both ELIXIR and the broader community of systems biologists in Europe and worldwide. The Community believes that the infrastructure aspects of systems biology - databases, (modelling) tools and standards development, as well as training and access to cloud infrastructure - are not only appropriate components of the ELIXIR infrastructure, but will prove key components of ELIXIRs future support of advanced biological applications and personalised medicine.

Ten simple rules for making a software tool workflow-ready
An ELIXIR-BE paper
In recent years, the volumes of data to be analyzed, as well as the complexity of that analysis, across many scientific fields have increased massively. As a consequence, workflows, abstract representations of data flow between multiple analytic tools, have become a core part of computational scientific analysis. In order for a piece of software to be usable as a workflow-ready tool, it may require alteration from its likely origin as a stand-alone tool. Here, the authors introduce 10 simple rules for developers to enable their computational tools to be fully utilized in modern workflow management systems.

Supporting an urgent call to protect Madagascars biodiversity with AI
Madagascar is one of the worlds foremost biodiversity hotspots with 82% of its plants and 90% of its vertebrates occurring nowhere else on Earth. A major review of this unique biodiversity has taken place. The results of the research, supported by AI-based tools developed by SIBs Daniele Silvestro and his team, show an urgent need for collaborative measures for science-based conservation.
