A warm welcome and a fond farewell
Today we're joined by two new faces at the ELIXIR Hub:
- Despoina Sousoni joins us as the new Outreach Officer for Industry
- Elaine Westwick joins as ELIXIR Communications Officer
Lengthier introductions will follow in a news release in coming weeks.
Xnias (ELIXIR Communications Officer) final day working at the ELIXIR Hub is this Friday, 21 January. She is joining ELIXIR UK as Data Stewardship Community Coordinator for the UK Fellowship Programme on DS, so will remain a familiar face within ELIXIR. Erin (ELIXIR Communications Officer) will be leaving for maternity leave on the 4 February.

How to be FAIR with your data: A teaching and training handbook for higher education institutions
An ELIXIR Netherlands and FAIRsFAIR paper
This handbook aims to support higher education institutions with the integration of FAIR-related content in their curricula and teaching. It was written and edited by a group of about 40 collaborators in a series of six book sprint events that took place between 1 and 10 June 2021. The document provides practical material, such as competence profiles, learning outcomes and lesson plans, and supporting information. It incorporates community feedback received during the public consultation which ran from 27 July to 12 September 2021.

3DBionotes COVID-19 edition
An ELIXIR Spain, CORBEL and EOSC-life paper
The web platform 3DBionotes-WS integrates multiple web services and an interactive web viewer to provide a unified environment in which biological annotations can be analyzed in their structural context. Since the COVID-19 outbreak, new structural data from many viral proteins have been provided at a very fast pace. In this context, we have developed 3DBionotes-COVID-19 as an answer to: (i) the need to explore multiomics data in a unified context with a special focus on structural information and (ii) the drive to incorporate quality measurements, especially in the form of advanced validation metrics for cryo-EM.

A new Beacon discovery service for genome data - including 20 million genomic variants
The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) and CSC have launched a new Beacon discovery series for genome data, fully integrated with the ELIXIR Beacon Network. The new data includes 20 million genomic variants for 105,000 Finnish sample donors as part of the FinnGen project.
