Register now for the next ELIXIR industry event 'Innovation & SME forum: Distributed data analysis - the {health} data train' taking place 10 - 11 October 2019 in Utrecht, Netherlands. The ELIXIR Innovation and SME Forum is your chance to meet opinion leaders and researchers, large and small companies that develop services for data management and sharing, as well as people involved in national healthcare initiatives.

There is also a full day workshop on Wednesday 24 July entitled Scalable Plant Research in Cloud Environments (COSI) organised by Frederik Coppens.

ELIXIR has released a collaborative statement with EFPIA, EATRIS, BBMRI, and ECRIN to highlight the key role of research infrastructures in boosting patient-centred research and innovation in Europe.

Updates from Platforms

Biohackathon EU 2019 takes place 18-22 November 2019 in Paris, France. This event provides a unique opportunity for industry developers to work with academics from Europe to work on bottlenecks in data driven life sciences. Over 50% of places have been filled so register soon.

The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative is inviting applications for funding for open source software projects that are essential to biomedical research. Applicants can request funding between $50k and $250k (USD) for one year. Applications are open to any country, and can cover a range of things from salary support to hackathons. If you would like to discuss an application please contact Tools Platform lead Jen Harrow.

The second Gallantries hackathon, "Gallantries: Galaxy Meets the Carpentries" took place on July 8-9 2019. This event was colocated with the Galaxy Community Conference CoFest in Freiburg. Germany.

We would like to congratulate Astrid Junker and Kristina Gruden on being elected as the new co-leads of the Plant Sciences Community, replacing Celia Miguel who is retiring from the role. Astrid and Kristina will work with Cyril Pommier who continues as a Community co-lead.

The ELIXIR Belgium All Hands meeting will take place on the 16 September 2019 in Brussels. The schedule is available online, and registration is open.

The Institut Franais de Bioinformatique (IFB) have released their annual Activity Report, reviewing services to communities, innovation, interactions with industry and ELIXIR as well as outlining action plans for 2018-2021.

A friendly reminder that early bird registration for the Advances in Computational Biology conference (Barcelona, 28-29 Nov, 2019) will close September 15, 2019. This unique scientific event is open to all and aims to foster collaboration among women scientists, highlight research done by women in systems biology, omics technologies, artificial intelligence and HPC with applications to biology.
