Computational analysis of 10,860 phenotypic annotations in SCN2A-related disorders

An ELIXIR-LU paper

Pathogenic variants in SCN2A cause a wide range of neurodevelopmental phenotypes. We extracted phenotypic information from primary descriptions of SCN2A-related disorders in the literature between 2001 and 2019, which we coded in Human Phenotype Ontology (HPO) terms. We identified 413 unrelated individuals and derived a total of 10,860 HPO terms with 562 unique terms. Protein-truncating variants were associated with autism and behavioral abnormalities.

The genomic basis of evolutionary differentiation among honey bees

An ELIXIR-ES paper

We provide a genome-wide comparison of three honey bee species each representing one of the three subgenera of honey bees, namely the dwarf (Apis florea), giant (A. dorsata) and cavity-nesting (A. mellifera) honey bees with bumblebees as outgroup. Our analyses resolve the phylogeny of honey bees with the dwarf honey bees diverging first. We find that evolution of increased eusocial complexity in Apis proceeds via increases in the complexity of gene regulation, which is in agreement with previous studies.
