Final call to upload All Hands posters and slides to the ELIXIR F1000 Gateway
Deadline: 5 September to be included in the All Hands report
A report is being written on the All Hands meeting 2022, which will help collate all links from all sessions. There will be a public version on F1000 and it would be great to have links to as many posters and slides as possible.
Its quick and easy to upload via the ELIXIR Gateway (and you get a DOI)

Umbilical cord blood DNA methylation in children who later develop type 1 diabetes
An ELIXIR-FI paper
Distinct DNA methylation patterns have recently been observed to precede type 1 diabetes in whole blood collected from young children. Our aim was to determine whether perinatal DNA methylation is associated with later progression to type 1 diabetes. Reduced representation bisulphite sequencing analysis was performed on umbilical cord blood samples collected within the Finnish Type 1 Diabetes Prediction and Prevention Study. No differences in the umbilical cord blood methylation patterns were observed between the cases and controls at a false discovery rate <0.05. Based on the results, differences between children who progress to type 1 diabetes and those who remain healthy throughout childhood are not yet present in the perinatal DNA methylome. However, the authors cannot exclude the possibility that such differences would be found in a larger dataset.
Scaling up oligogenic diseases research with OLIDA: the Oligogenic Diseases Database
An ELIXIR-BE paper
Improving the understanding of the oligogenic nature of diseases requires access to high-quality, well-curated Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable (FAIR) data. The OLIgogenic diseases DAtabase (OLIDA) presents a novel, transparent and rigorous curation protocol, introducing a confidence scoring mechanism for the published oligogenic literature. The application of this protocol on the oligogenic literature generated a new repository containing 916 oligogenic variant combinations linked to 159 distinct diseases. Information extracted from the scientific literature is supplemented with current knowledge support obtained from public databases. OLIDA follows the FAIR principles, providing detailed documentation, easy data access through its application programming interface and website, use of unique identifiers and links to existing ontologies.

Updates from Nodes
AlphaFold protein database expanded
The AlphaFold database just got bigger. The latest update has increased the AlphaFold database from 1 million to over 200 million protein structure predictions, giving users open access to the 3D protein universe. Now, almost every protein sequence on the UniProt protein database will come with a predicted structure.
New funding for ELIXIR-IT
The project proposal ELIXIRxNextGenIT: Consolidation of the Italian Infrastructure for Omics and Bioinformatics has been approved as part of the RRP (Recovery and Resilience Plan) actions, with an endowment of 18.6 million. The National Research Council of Italy (CNR) will coordinate the project with the participation of the Universities of Bari, Milan, Milan Bicocca, Padua, Bologna, and Federico II of Naples.
