Minutes of Basel HoN meeting

The minutes of the HoN meeting in Basel on 13 September are available here. Please review within 2 weeks and notify the Hub with any comments after which they will be considered accepted.

Call for Industry Advisory Committee (IAC) members

Due to current members stepping down at the end of the year, we need to appoint 4 new members to the Industry Advisory Committee (IAC). We have extended the deadline for nominations to 6 October. The application process is simply to send a CV, using the template provided. If you know of someone suitable, please let Pablo Roman know (pablo.roman@elixir-europe.org) or use the link. The ELIXIR Board will appoint the members in their November meeting. 

International strategy update

We have finalised the second round of consultations for the update of the International Strategy, which captures international collaborations with global organisations and international countries. Before finalising, we welcome input from HoNs. If you wish to comment, please do so by Friday 6 October 2017.

Programme Committee of the 2018 All Hands meeting

The ELIXIR Community is asked to put forward nominations for the Programme Committee of the 2018 All Hands meeting.

We are looking for members with a broad scientific and technical expertise covering ELIXIR Platforms, Use Cases and Services. The deadline is Monday 02 October; send your nominations to allhands@elixir-europe.org.

Written Procedure

The Written Procedure, to agree on the selection process for Use Cases and Implementation Study Project Plans, is now closed. Thank you very much for your feedback. We will communicate on Monday the decision agreed by the HoNs to continue the 4 current Use Cases and establish 3 new ones. We will continue to review and address the feedback on Project Plans.

Implementation Studies starting October 2017

The Commissioned Services Contracts for Implementation Studies scheduled to start 1 October have been approved by the ELIXIR Board. The following studies are therefore ready to start after the signing of the contracts:

  • ELIXIR Proof of concept study on the availability of big datasets on remote compute infrastructure
  • Using clouds and VMs for bioinformatics training (Workshop as a Service)
  • ELIXIR integration from a user perspective
  • Integration of ELIXIR Germany into ELIXIR activities
  • Integration of ELIXIR Italy into ELIXIR activities

Irish Node application

The ELIXIR Hub is delighted to announce that the Board has now approved the Irish Node application. The Head of Node is Professor Walter Koch from University College Dublin and the Deputy HoN is Dr Colm Ryan also from University College, Dublin.

Request for information (RFI) on Next-Generation Data Science Challenges in Health and Biomedicine

The National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Library of Medicine (NLM) has issued a request for information (RFI) on 'Next-Generation Data Science Challenges in Health and Biomedicine'. NLM seeks community input on new data science research initiatives that could address key challenges currently faced by researchers, clinicians, administrators, and others. The response timeline is tight, with comments due by 1 November 2017.
