The Software and Data Carpentry Instructor Training workshop organised by ELIXIR-UK in Manchester 22-23 November 2015 was a great success.
Run by Greg Wilson from Software Carpentry Foundation, Aleksandra Pawlik from SSI, and Karin Lagesen from University of Oslo, the workshop trained 24 new Software and Data Carpentry instructors from a number of ELIXIR nodes (UK, Netherlands, Norway, Slovenia, Spain, France). In addition, Aleksandra Pawlik and Karin Lagesen both got certified to run Software and Data Carpentry instructor training workshops independently - they are the first such instructors from Europe. This will make it easier for ELIXIR to run such workshops in the future.
More information is available on the ELIXIR-UK website.
About Software and Data Carpentry
Software Carpentry and its sibling initiative Data Carpentry have been teaching researchers in science, engineering, medicine, and related disciplines the computing and data skills they need in their research. ELIXIR is currently running a Pilot Action to leverage the work of both initiatives in developing training programme for ELIXIR. It is led by ELIXIR UK, with a number of other national nodes joining up (ELIXIR Slovenia, Netherlands, Finland or Switzerland).
