Arcadi Navarro, Spanish delegate in the ELIXIR Board, and the Director of the Department of Experimental and Health Sciences at the University Pompeu Fabra (UPF) in Barcelona, has been appointed Secretary of Universities and Research in the new Catalan government.
Reporting to the Minister of Industry and Knowledge (Empresa i Coneixement), Arcadi Navarro will be in charge of all issues relating to universities and research. He will be also responsible for the Catalan University Quality Assurance Agency (AQU Catalonia) and the Agency for Management of University and Research Grants (AGAUR).
Arcadi Navarro - one of the leading figures in Spanish bioinformatics community – has played an important role in the development of the ELIXIR Node in Spain. He currently leads the Evolutionary Genomics Lab at the Institute of Evolutionary Biology, is the director of Genomic Diversity and Population Genomics Node of the National Bioinformatics Institute (INB-ISCIII) and secretary of the Board of the Association Bioinformatics Barcelona BIB.
He leads the European Genome-phenome Archive a database developed in collaboration between the Center for Genomic Regulation in Barcelona and the EMBL-EBI, with the support of the Spanish INB and ELIXIR.
