As the ELIXIR Hub project portfolio expands, we are delighted to announce the appointment of four members of staff at the ELIXIR Hub, all taking on newly created roles to support the organisational backbone of ELIXIR.
Andrea Troncoso - Project Manager, BY-COVID
Andrea joins ELIXIR as a Project Manager in the Project Management Office, overseeing the activities of the new EU-funded BY-COVID project.
Originally from Chile, Andrea currently lives in Germany. She was previously an EU Project Officer at the European Citizen Science Association and European Science Engagement Association, where she was mainly in charge of communications and public engagement. She also managed EU projects at the European Science Museums Network, in Brussels. She is a member of the board of directors of The Valley of the Possible, a Dutch NGO that brings together arts and science.
In Chile, she was deeply involved in science education and biodiversity conservation. She holds a bachelor degree in Forestry and a master degree in International Relations for Human Development, from the University of Geneva.
Andrea started her role on 15 September 2021.
Martina Caloi - ELIXIR Legal Officer
Martina joins ELIXIR in a newly created role as Legal Officer in the ELIXIR Legal Services team. In her role she will work alongside the Principal Legal Adviser on all legal matters involving ELIXIR. In particular, Martina will also be actively involved in data protection at the Hub and will work closely with the Project Management Office and Administration in relation to Commissioned Services and Grants.
Martina is originally from Italy, but she has completed her Bachelor of Law in the UK, where she also worked as a research assistant for the Knowing Our Rights Project (research project aiming to increase public understanding of the application of the European Convention on Human Rights in the UK). She then went on to complete her Masters of Law at both KU Leuven (Belgium) and the University of Zurich (Switzerland), obtaining a double Masters degree.
Martina started her role on 18 October 2021.
Gavin Farrell - ELIXIR Technical Officer
In another newly created role, Gavin joins ELIXIR as a Technical Officer, working within the ELIXIR Technical Team and supporting the activities of the Data, Interoperability and Compute Platforms.
Originally from Galway in Ireland, Gavin started his career in the life sciences with a BSc in Biotechnology from the National University of Ireland in Galway, with a study abroad programme taking him for a year to the University of Natural Resources in Vienna, Austria. Subsequently he completed a MSc in Biomedical Genomics at the National University of Ireland investigating the gut microbiome in relation to colorectal cancer.
Gavin started his role on 1 November 2021.
Prithviraj (Raj) Mitra - ELIXIR Web Developer
Raj joins the External Relations team as a web-developer working on the ELIXIR website and ELIXIR-run project websites including BY-COVID, B1MG and FAIRplus.
Originally from Kolkata in India, Raj has been working in the web-development field since 2005. Prior to joining ELIXIR, he has worked as a web-developer in several UK-based companies over the last 10 years, and previously has also worked across the world in Denmark, Saudi Arabia and India.
Raj started in his role on 2 November 2021.
