Annotation of macromolecular structure complexes in the PDB archive

The goal of the collaborative project between ELIXIR Czech Republic and EMBL-EBI was to build local capacity for annotation of PDBe data in the Masaryk University (part of ELIXIR Czech Republic). During six months (from July 2016 to February 2017), five graduate students from the Masaryk University visited EMBL-EBI and received training in annotation of PDBe data. After the initial training, the researchers contributed to the standardisation of names for macromolecular complexes in PDBe.

As part of the project, over 300 complexes in PDBe were annotated and became a part of Complex Portal database. The Complex Portal included at the time of the project around 1800 annotated complexes. The complexes annotated during this project therefore covered more than 15% of the Complex Portal database.

The project was the first project involving exchange of staff between ELIXIR Nodes and served as a test case in developing the ELIXIR Staff Exchange Programme.
